She received the Golden Charter and the award “SUNFLOW OF RURAL TOURISM OF CROATIA 2014″ in recent years for winning 1st place in the category of rural tourism events. In this program, in 2018, almost 200 participants are participating, including members of the performance and guests from BiH and Serbia, as well as members of cultural and artistic associations, tamburitza ensembles, exhibitors and members of horse breeding associations with carriages.”Through this long story that has been going on continuously for the last 16 years, this year we will have many guests from other countries who have not participated so far, and these are primarily visitors from Austria and Romania who will present their traditional wealth to the audience.”, Said the director of the Tourist Board of the city of Zupanja, Mirko Bacic. What does this authentic experience offer in general? For centuries, the harvest has been a symbol of prosperity for Slavonians, along with socializing, singing and a rich menu, according to the Županja Tourist Board. However, despite the fact that the old customs were simplified and eaten at the same time, with this event the people of Županja tried to revive the beauty of the old customs. The program begins with a traditional Slavonian meal on a straw table, and continues with a demonstration of hand-mowing wheat, tying sheaves, handling sheaves and threshing on old machines such as dres and levator. The show stretches throughout the day and takes place in different parts of the field, while this breath of the old world is due to members of cultural and artistic associations from the county and members of horse breeding associations that gather in the form of joint work, the so-called. “Mobe”. In addition to the interactive feature part of the program, the event includes a harvest fair offering local local products – carp zucchini, gold embroidery, slinger and foreign, then a presentation of old crafts, workshops of indigenous products, but also awards and recognitions for the most successful producers in agriculture and livestock. numerous performances by cultural and artistic associations.”This year, a higher number of visitors is expected compared to the previous ones, although none of them has surpassed the first year of the event so far, when “Our Everyday Bread” was visited by somewhere between 1.000 and 1.200 guests. We anticipate a minimum of 700 guests who will magnify the harvest festivities and we hope that everyone, in the end, will be satisfied”, Said Bacic. The goal of such events is the development and improvement of rural tourism, inclusion in the tourist offer of continental tourism, the creation of a desirable tourist destination, as well as the creation of a new tourist product based on original resources available to the city of Zupanja. “Our everyday bread” wants to preserve the traditional values of Eastern Slavonia together with old crafts and customs because they are also a key factor in the diverse offer of continental Croatia. The event seeks to create partnerships with businessmen and entrepreneurs, provide additional funding to family farms and small businesses, encourage the development of international cooperation with neighbors and the Croatian Heritage Foundation, increase overall tourism and encourage locals to participate in rural tourism. Also, two commendable initiatives should be highlighted: the first seeks to create a unique tourist product called “From the Golden Grain to the Culinary” by connecting heritage and gastronomic offer, and the second wants to build a Harvest Apartment. Žetveni stan or guvno is designed as a place for all cultural, entertainment and tourist events in Vukovar-Srijem County, and would be located not far from the city on an area of 2 hectares with attractions such as a tourist cooperative house and tasting rooms.”Županja and its surroundings are primarily an agricultural area and here tourism will never be the carrier of economic development, but what we must strive for is to create a story that there is added value here that can be a generous source of income. We have great potential in the development of rural tourism, for example, the offer of private accommodation in 5 years has jumped from 2 to 12 units. There is always room for progress, desire exists, we must shake that inertia and persevere”, Concluded Bačić.The Tourist Board wants to make Županja a recognizable destination for active holidays, pure nature, local food and events that preserve cultural heritage and tradition, and through its work always strives to be a source and motivation for new ideas and discovering hidden potentials.
