ESM, F-M bowlers split neighborhood clash

first_imgAlready with two early-season wins in the books, the East Syracuse Minoa boys bowling team sought to build on that success as it continued to get used to its new home venue at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.And this included a head-to-head match Friday between the Spartans and its neighbors from Fayetteville-Manlius, who came to Strike-N-Spare and would end up splitting a pair of 2-1 decisions.The boys Spartans beat the Hornets behind Chris Bayly’s 637 series, with games of 238 and 234, and a 611 series from Tyler Talarico, helped by Kobie Gibson (598 series) and Brett Smith (553 series). F-M still had the top individual effort from Kevin Winschel, who shot a closing 264 during his 651 series. Aiden Koss was close behind, with a 236 and 214 in his 626 set.The girls match would go 2-1 in F-M’s favor, though, helped by Shelby Miner’s 247 game that kicked off a 550 series.Consistent efforts by Kendra Elliot (486 series), Samantha Estock (443 series) and Lydia Chase (431 series) helped overcome ESM’s America Carhart shooting a 622 series with games of 226 and 234 to start out. Back on Tuesday, ESM faced Liverpool, where the Spartans took a 3-0 defeat to the Warriors. Bayly still had a 634 series, while Smith got a 594 series as Talarico had a 547 set and Kobie Gibson a 536 series.But Liverpool had some big efforts, especially from Dylan Roberson, who shot 267, 244 and 258 for a league-best 758 series as Josh Winzens had 10 strikes in a 288 during his 713 set.The ESM girls also lost 3-0 to Liverpool, though Carhart did have a 541 series fueled by a 202 opening game. The Warriors got a 577 series from Ashley Hardy, a 561 from Mackenzie Gill and a 556 from Makenzi Ormsby.F-M began its week by splitting its match with Central Square in its home opener at Green Lakes Lanes. During the girls Hornets’ 3-0 win over the Redhawks, Miner stood out, with games of 246 and 242 on her way to a 590 series.Elliot finished with a 183 game to cap her 485 series. Chase contributed a 470 series and 178 high game as Estock had a 418 series and Hannah Smith added a 401 set.F-M’s boys lost 2-1 to Central Square in a match full of superlative individual efforts, Winschel putting together a 725 series that included games of 250, 248 and 227.Koss recorded 10 strikes in his 289 game that was part of a 719 series, but the Redhawks had four players shoot series of 508 or better, led by Dimitri Queior, who started with a 269 and got a three-game total of 718.Bishop Grimes got a sweep over Weedsport last Monday at Strike-N-Spare. The boys match went 5-2 in the Cobras’ favor as Joe Belton earned a 514 series and 188 opening game, while Alex Williams got a 169 game to wrap his 466 set.And in the Grimes girls’ 7-0 win over Weedsport, Olivia Coppola led the way, shooting a three-game total of 408 with a high game of 167. Izabella Kinsey added a 303 series.Grimes then lost a pair of matches to Solvay on Wednesday.
