Tottenham confirm departure of transfer chief

first_img Franco Baldini with Daniel Levy 1 Tottenham have announced the departure of technical director Franco Baldini. The Italian, former England assistant to Fabio Capello, has been in the role since the summer of 2013.Brought in to overhaul the club’s recruitment strategy, he was widely criticised for the spending spree that followed Gareth Bale’s departure. After receiving £86m for the sale of Bale to Real Madrid, Spurs splashed out more than £100m on Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Christian Eriksen, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Nacer Chadli.Few of those arrivals, however, made a positive impact at White Hart Lane, and Soldado, Paulinho, Capoue and Chiriches all left White Hart Lane in the summer.Baldini’s position was weakened by the appointment of Paul Mitchell as the club’s head of recruitment last November. And now the 54-year-old has left the north London club after agreeing a severance package.A statement from the club read: “Franco joined us as technical director in June 2013 from AS Roma where he was general director. He leaves us now to spend time outside of club football. We wish him all the best for the future.”last_img read more
